Hearth & River Fund
The Hearth & River Fund was established to honor the enduring friendship between the Choctaw Nation and Ireland, inspired by the Choctaw’s act of generosity during Ireland’s Great Famine. This initiative is dedicated to advocating for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Chahta, ensuring their stories are heard and justice is pursued.
Our Mission
This fund provides support and advocacy for:
✅ Raising awareness about the MMIW crisis and its impact on Indigenous communities
✅ Educational programs to inform and empower communities
✅ Historical preservation of the Choctaw-Irish connection and its legacy of solidarity
✅ Community engagement to drive meaningful change
Why It Matters
Indigenous women face disproportionately high rates of violence, with murder being the third leading cause of death. Oklahoma ranks second in the U.S. for missing Indigenous persons, highlighting the urgency of this crisis. By supporting education, advocacy, and action, the Hearth & River Fund continues the legacy of compassion, resilience, and solidarity that has connected these two nations for generations.
